Apple Jalebi |Sweet Apple Rings

Apple Jalebi | sweet apple rings - quick dessert Today I am going to share the recipe for one of my favorite and unique desert, Apple Jalebi! Apple Jalebi or sweet Apple rings is a very uncommon dessert made with apple rings coated with batter, deep-fried and then soaked in sugar syrup. Sounds yum? It is also quick to make, easy, needs just very basic ingredient and is delightfully lip smacking. I learned making it from a magazine article in India around 12 years ago(Ah, that makes me feel old)!

Here is the recipe for you all to try and enjoy

Ingredients

  • 2 Apples – peeled and sliced in thin rings
  • 3/4  cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2  tsp dry yeast
  • 1 cup (for syrup) + 1/2  tsp (for yeast proofing) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Oil to deep fry
  • 1 cup water (for syrup) + little more for batter
  • 1/4  teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)
  • Almonds and/or pistachios to garnish (optional)

Procedure

  • Proof yeast by adding it in ¼ cup warm water along with sugar, let it rest for about 5 minutes.
  • Add 1/2 tsp to oil to the flour to mix it well.

  • Mix 1 cup water with 1 cup  sugar. Add cardamom to the syrup and boil for around 8-10 minutes. (you can add a couple of drops of lemon juice to the sugar syrup to keep it from crystallizing)
  • Once batter is fermented, we can start frying the jalebis.
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan, Dip the apple slices in the batter one at a time, making sure the slice is completely covered with batter and slowly drop the slices into the frying pan.

  • Let them cook for around 4-5 minutes, until golden brown from both sides.

  • Put the jalebis in the sugar syrup, let soak for 20-30 secs, take out and let excess sugar syrup drain.
  • Garnish with sliced nuts or just dig right in! Be careful though, the apple in the center is hotter than you would expect. 🙂
